Chennai: Tamil film star Vijay couldn’t have asked for a better start to initiate the year 2012. The actor’s latest outing ‘Nanban’ has kept the Box Office ringing ever since it was released last Friday.
It was double joy for the fans of Vijay as the film hit the screen on the auspicious occasion of Pongal. And Vijay must be certainly relishing every second of his success now!
‘Nanban’ gave a new lease of life to the ‘Ilaya Thalapathy’ (young emperor) of Tamil cinema for he saw a slump in his career graph prior to the release of the film.
Reportedly, the change of the Tamil Nadu government played the trick for this very talented man.
His film ‘Kaavalan’ that was remade in Hindi as ‘Bodyguard’ struggled to find theatres for its screening when DMK was ruling the state. But now that Jaya Lalitha has taken over as the Chief Minister, Vijay’s film was screened at as many as 450 theatres across Tamil Nadu. And a suburban multiplex named ‘Maayajal’ screened 67 ‘Nanban’ shows on the day of release.
Apparently, DMK had a strong influence on the Tamil industry. So to survive without their patronage was a daunting task. Reportedly, even the best of the theatres were controlled by the party supremos.
Vijay had publicly spoken about his support for Jayalalitha prior to the elections in Tamil Nadu and was waiting for her to take charge of the state.
Ever since Jayalalitha took over the CM’s office, Vijay’s professional graph to saw a movement upward!
His film ‘Velayudham’ did brisk business and opened with an incredible 850 prints worldwide and now its ‘Nanban’ that is doing the talking.
