MediaTek was the first to announce a chipset with a true octa-core processor, now the first smartphone using this chipset  is unveiled using this processor at the Autumn Edition of Hong Kong Electronics Fair.  Chipset produced by MediaTek can access all 8 cores at one time. In comparison to this, the Samsung Exynos 5 octa-core processor which uses the big-LITTLE architecture and can only have one group of four cores active at a time.

UMI officially unveiled the first smartphone that powered by MediaTek MT6592 octa-core processor – UMI X2S.

UMI X2S – the first true octa core phone

Most of UMI’s phones are intended for the Chinese market , but they have announced and released some of their hones in India via their website and Android Guruz store.  The UMI X2S is powered by 1.5GHz MediaTek MT6592 octa-core processor, 2GB of RAM and 32GB of internal memory. For the camera, XS2 has a 13-megapixel shooter with Sony lens. The display of UMI XS2 is larger than its predecessor with 5-inch “standard” size. The display resolution is 1920 x 1080 pixel, full HD. It supports NFC as well.  Since MG6592 is LTE-capable, we guess the X2S should be LTE-enabled as well.  The UMI X2S is expected to sell for between 1,499 Yuan and 1,999 Yuan ($246 to $328 USD). No launch date was announced. Hopeful once it is announced we might have this beast n Indian shores. Also Micormax and other manufacturers will release their phones with true octacore very soon, since most of them depend on MediaTek for the chipsets.
