As Rajasthan government persuaded the organizers of Jaipur Literary Festival to ask Salman Rushdie to call off his visit, stars condemned the ban on Twitter.
Celina Jaitly retweeted Pritish Nandy’s tweet who wrote: ‘Rushdie should be included in our text books so that the next generation of politicians know what should not be banned.’
Author and socialite Shobhaa De isn’t too happy either. ‘We did it again! Succumbed to pressure. Salman R should turn up regardless. As a visitor to the Lit Fest, not a speaker. That would show ’em!’ she updated.
Singer Sona Mohapatra tweeted: ‘Salman Rushdie asked to stay away from the Jaipur Literature Festival ?! What kind of a wimpy govt is this ? What kind of democracy ??.. & what a blow to an already drab cultural landscape !! SAD.’
Photographer Atul Kasbekar wrote: ‘So what kind of dweeb nicks someone’s water bottle from the gym? Same dip that doesn’t allow #Rushdie to the #LitFest? #SameGuys’
